Social media handles in print

When referencing social media handles and/or usernames in print, adhere to the following style which distinguishes when to use or omit the @ symbol or / depending on the social media platform:

  • X: include @ (example: @IllinoisStateU)
  • Instagram: omit @ (example: IllinoisStateU)
  • Facebook: omit / (example: IllinoisStateUniversity)
  • YouTube: omit / (example: IllinoisStateUniversity)
  • TikTok: include @ (example: @IllinoisStateU)

Social media handles and/or usernames in print should be preceded by either the social media platform’s logo or name.
