Photo captions

  • Photo captions should be written in present tense when possible.

  • Excluding those solely for identification purposes, captions should be written in complete sentences.

  • Individuals should be identified when possible, using directions. The preferred direction is from left, but other conventions are acceptable: third from right, clockwise from top left

  • The identifying direction should be italicized and separated by a comma or commas.

  • If a photo credit is needed, it should be added to the end of the caption in parentheses: (Photo/John Doe)
