See the following for an outline of the process from the project’s initiation to its completion.
To expedite the completion of your project and ensure that your project adheres to the established timeline, all materials (copy, photos, etc.) should be given to UMC at the project initiation phase.
Step 1: Call for an appointment: When you are ready to contact UMC regarding a project call (309) 438-8404 and schedule an appointment. Gather your ideas, photos, specs, copy, and etc.
Step 2: Meeting and copy due: At the meeting you and/or your team will meet with a designer and one our project managers. In the case of a newsletter, Kate Arthur also will join in the initial meeting. If you are ready with copy prior to this meeting you may e-mail the Word document to the project manager. Any photos you wish to use can be sent electronically, on a CD, or as prints. Send a project assessment sheet (attached). Once the scope of the project is determined and a timeline is discussed the project manager will prepare an estimate and a production schedule, if requested.
Step 3: Editing and design: The copy that you send to UMC will be forwarded to a copy editor. You will be contacted with any questions about the copy. The edited copy is then sent to the designer.
Step 4: Proof to client: Once you receive your first proof, the designer serves as your contact for design and copy questions. Any questions about time, cost, mailing, etc. should be directed to project managers. If you are sending new copy, please send it to the designer and project manager. Return the proof to the designer with changes marked on the proof if the changes are minor. If changes are longer than one sentence, they should be sent in a Word document as an insert. Return the signed printing request form with the first proof. More proofs may be provided as the changes require.
